At Spear R Ranch, ranching isn’t just business—it’s the life and passion of Kode and Mirjam, a husband-and-wife team dedicated to raising high-quality beef and giving back to their community in Montrose, Colorado.

Kode grew up surrounded by the rugged beauty of Southwestern Colorado and was born into the ranching way of life. From an early age, he developed a deep respect for the land, livestock, and traditions that define ranching in the West.

Mirjam, originally from Germany, moved to Colorado in 2003 after spending her youth in Vermont. Horses have always been close to her heart—her grandfather bred horses back in Germany—and her love for the Western lifestyle blossomed when she settled in Colorado. It was after meeting Kode that she fully embraced ranching and the cowboy way of life.

Together, Kode and Mirjam became active members of Save the Cowboy, a cowboy ministry headquartered in Kiowa, Colorado. Through this community, they built meaningful connections and became involved in the ministry’s beef program, which provides high-quality beef to anyone in need, free of charge to them and without questions asked. Today, they’ve carried that mission home to Montrose, where Spear R Ranch not only produces premium beef but also serves as a growing effort to help feed those facing hardship in their community.

For Kode and Mirjam, ranching is more than raising cattle—it’s about sharing the blessings of ranch life and caring for their neighbors.

At Spear R Ranch, our cattle are more than livestock—they’re part of our family. We raise our herd humanely and with love, purposely keeping it small so we can focus on quality above all else.

Quality is our number one priority, and our careful, hands-on approach ensures that every cut we produce reflects the dedication and care we give to each animal.

Our cattle are grass-fed on the rich pastures we nurture year-round. We never use growth hormones and rely on natural breeding practices.

To ensure the best flavor and enhance that delicious marble finish, we lightly grain-finish our cattle with top-quality local grain.
